It is the second day of that time of the month for me… My next weigh-in date is this Sunday, the fifth, or in two days.
Just in case I didn’t make that clear enough, I will still have my period on my weigh-in day…
…And I refuse – absolutely refuse – to step on the scale while having my period. Why? Because, like many other women, I bloat like a big water balloon attached to a water hose, which implies added water weight. Even though I know it is merely a temporary addition, silly me can’t bear to see the numbers go up on the scale.

So, I decided to do a little research and find out if other women shared my views. After a quick visit to various weight loss forums and such, I found that nearly all of the women who expressed their opinions on the subject experience an increase in weight that could vary anywhere from 0.5 to 6 lb! This sudden increase – note I say “increase” and not “gain” – usually makes itself known at least five days before our little friend arrives for the week.
Fortunately, after we bid our friend goodbye, the extra water pounds disappear almost magically. And, if you are dieting and exercising, you may even find an extra pound or two are gone as well!
So, I guess the point of this post is: Ladies, don’t freak out if you notice your tummy is a tad rounder and/or the numbers have inexplicably gone up on your scale during that time of the month. Trust me, when Aunt Flow leaves town, she will take those extra pounds with her!
